Description
Guitarist Stephane Wrembel celebrates legendary "Gypsy jazz" musician and composer Django Reinhardt. Considered one of the preeminent master guitarists specializing in the Reinhardt style, Wrembel’s music incorporates jazz, blues, classical, swing, flamenco and rock. Called “perhaps the most creative improviser in Gypsy jazz today” by The New York Times.
The first half of the program will feature a set from The Stephane Wrembel Band featuring Wrembel joined by Josh Kaye on guitar, Ari Folman-Cohen on bass, and Nick Anderson on drums. Special guests will include Mozes Rosenberg (Netherlands), French guitarists Antione Boyer, David Gastine, Simba Baumgartner (Django’s great-grandson), and Yeore Kim (France) on harmonica, in addition to other surprise guests.
The second half of the program will feature Django New Orleans with Stephane Wrembel and Josh Kaye on guitar, Adrien Chevalier on violin, Joe Correia on tuba, David Langlois on percussion/washboard, Nick Driscoll on tenor sax/clarinet, Joe Boga on trumpet, Scott Kettner on drums, and Sarah King on vocals. The group celebrates the iconic guitarist and composer Django Reinhardt by blending the traditional sounds of New Orleans brass and percussion with the enchanting “Jazz Manouche” guitar style. From swing to second lines, this ensemble offers a truly magical night of music.
The concert will conclude with all of the musicians on the stage for a rousing rendition of the Reinhardt classic “Les yeux noirs" (Dark Eyes)
Advance CDs of the new recording, Django New Orleans II: Hors Série, will be available at the show, in advance of the official release in fall of 2025.
