Students observe, analyze, and discuss works of art from China, India, and Japan. In comparing and contrasting art across different cultures, students consider the various religions, philosophies, and ideals that have shaped the history of Asia. The teaching artist facilitates creative collaboration among classmates, inviting discussion that incorporates many perspectives. A hands-on art project, such as a model Japanese screen or Chinese Calligraphy, may be included in a two-workshop series. An artist-led trip to view authentic Asian art in a New York City museum may also be arranged.
