Using critical thinking, students analyze elements of paintings and artifacts to gain a deeper understanding of the social, economic, and historical contexts of the period. Within this two-workshop series, teaching artists pose questions that facilitate student responses and a student art project is included. Schools may also opt to take an artist-guided tour of a New York City museum, providing students a first-hand opportunity with authentic American art.
