icon Meredith Monk, a pioneer in extended
vocal technique and interdisciplinary performance. Composer, singer,
director-choreographer and creator of new opera, music theater works,
films and installations Monk is a major creative force in the
performing arts. Along with Meredith Monk & Vocal
Ensemble, featured artists in the cycle interpret her
works in unique, musical juxtapositions.
Proclaimed a “magician of the voice” and “one of America’s coolest composers,” Meredith Monk’s appearance with her renowned vocal ensemble at Symphony Space is her primary New York concert of the 2007/2008 season. With some of the most adventurous singer-performers active in new music, Meredith Monk & Vocal Ensemble offer a sampler of recent and classic works, taking the listener on a musical adventure.

Vocal Ensemble members perform along with Hollenbeck’s Claudia Quintet,
presenting works by Monk along with original compositions.
Possessing an "edgy, unflagging energy" (The New York Times), the Talujon Percussion Quartet teams up with experimental violinist-composer Todd Reynolds, putting a new spin on Monk’s music along with works by Giacinto Scelsi, Steve Reich, Philip Glass and a new work by Reynolds.
