Experience the enchantment of traditional Hawaiian hula as Hālau
I Ka Wēkiu, a hula school in Pauoa, O’ahu, Hawai’i brings its exquisite style of hula
to the stage. Under the direction of Nā Kumu Hula (Hula masters) Karl Veto
Baker and Michael Casupang hula is more than a beautiful art; it transcends all
that they do and becomes a passion and a way of life.

A unique fusion of
Argentine tango, modern and classical ballet, as a common language of movement.
In “Volver al sur”, individuals journeying through a changing world bring with
them their music and dance, their need to celebrate and their longing to return.

Performing a
cross-section of Tribal, Egyptian and Cabaret styles, the Bellydance Superstars
exhibit an intoxicating spectacle that transports the audience to a distant time
and place while stimulating all the senses. Taking an ancient art form into the
mainstream, they have garnered international acclaim from critics, instructors,
dancers, and fans alike.
The troupe’s current show, “Babelesque,”
features all new choreography, costumes and production. Dressed in luxurious
colorful costumes, the Bellydance Superstars beautifully display the true art of
bellydance. The exotic sounds of haunting melodies echo through every venue
during each show, and the dancers perform in front of an amazing backdrop with
washes of lighting and effects.

Jacques d’Amboise,
his son Christopher, his daughter Charlotte, and his son-in-law Terence
Mann celebrate,
through song, dance, and reminiscences, their encounters over many years
with the
great choreographer, Jerome Robbins. The program will include rare film footage
of major
Robbins dances including “Afternoon of a Faun” with Jacques and Tanaquil LeClerq,
“Peter
Pan,” revived for Charlotte
in Jerome Robbins’ Broadway, and
performed to honor Mary
Martin
at the Kennedy Center, and “Fancy Free,” revived for
Christopher and Mikhail Baryshnikov
at New York City Ballet. The
intimate program will also include the premiere of a short new
work
based on Yiddish songs Robbins would have heard as a child, sung by Charlotte and
choreographed
by Jacques.

classic Christmas tale of a child’s dream brought to life, featuring the young,
talented students from the Dance Conservatory of New York, under the leadership
of Valentina Kozlova, a former dancer with the Bolshoi Ballet and New York City
Ballet. It’s a wonderful opportunity to see up-and-coming dancers and the next
generation of ballerinas!

Keigwin Kabarets are spectacles of contemporary dance and burlesque
performed as site-specific work. Audiences glimpse the underbelly of
performance culture through provocative evenings of dance and comedy. Inspired
by the backstage events of live theater, KEIGWIN+COMPANY present smart dances
with hints of irony while special guest stars juice up the entertainment
quotient.
